Thanksgiving

There are many things I have to be thankful for, but the one that I think about often is the fact I'm privileged enough to be able to have a roof over my head and food provided for me. An estimate of about 50,000 youth in the US have no place to stay and no money to be able to buy the food they need to be able to keep in good health, and even just to survive. It's also said that every year more than 2 million kids in America will at some point experience a point of homelessness. A lot of people, including myself sometimes, don't realize how lucky they are to be able to be a part of the percent that hasn't had to go through that in their lifetime.

Patrician Clothing Project

For my project, I did a PowerPoint describing the type of clothing patrician men and women wore during Julius Caesar's time period in Ancient Rome. Before I completed this project, I knew nearly nothing about what they wore. After, I knew almost everything about what they wore, even down to the type of jewelry they wore. This helped me get a better picture of what I was reading and I was able to visualize the story better.

Magical Phone

As time progresses, humans discover new ideas and learn new advancements every day; one of these major advancements being in technology. The phones we have today are capable of doing things not even imaginable to people who lived in the past. But what if the table was turned and future phones were able to do things not imaginable to us right now? What if they even had magical features, that seem impossible to exist? There's endless possibilities of the ideas people could come with that'd be extremely useful to have, but that are simply just not realistic or possible. For example, one of those features could be an app that dispenses any food at your choice at the push of a button. Or maybe an app that could duplicate any object put in front of it. Maybe even an app allowing an object(or person) to be transported from one place to another! The ideas of the magical possibilities are endless.

My Favorite Vacation

My favorite vacation spot I have ever been to would probably be California. I went last summer with my grandparents, uncle, and cousins. We went to many different places in California, and we even stayed in a different hotel every night. We went to 5 beaches there, but my favorite would probably have to be Venice beach. There was a boardwalk right beside it which I thought was different from anything I've seen, yet amazing. To the left there were people lined up with their own tents selling different homemade things such as paintings and art, and to the right there were different kinds of shops. I got a henna tattoo and a painting from one of the tents, but the henna washed away pretty fast since we went swimming so often. It was fun to people watch and see all the different types of people walking around. Another cool thing about California were the theme parks. We went to a couple of different theme parks and they were both fantastic. If I ever get to choose where we vacation again, I'd most definitely choose California.

Don't Be Looked Down Upon Because You're Young

Upon having to choose a favorite bible verse, I would choose 1 Timothy 4:12, due to the fact it applies to life, religious or not. It reads, "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity." I liked this verse because it's something I can apply to my life right now. A lot of the time adults think of younger people as less intelligent in all aspects, which isn't always completely true. Sometimes they don't take anything into consideration if said by a younger person because they assume that their level of intelligence and/or morals are far beyond theirs. In this scenario, instead of feeling looked down upon the younger person should instead set an example and prove them incorrect. The older person's perspective can be completely changed by just the reaction of what the person being looked down on does. Their reaction can effect them in a positive way and giving them a new view on whatever they were looking down on them for.

Summer Reading Group Assignment

Monica and I did our summer reading group assignment on the characterization of "The Pearl" by John Steinbeck. We had to compare a character in the story to a character in another story, movie or TV show, so we compared Kino to Mr. Krabs from Spongebob. We also had to include the definition of characterization, explain why we compared the characters we chose, and include a quote from the passage supporting our topic. We made a glogster project for this assignment. We went to glogster, added some pictures and shapes to make it look more interesting, and then added in the facts to it. I feel like I learned a lot about annotations from the summer reading project and how they help to dissect the book better.

Goals For Freshman Year

This year being my first year of high school, I have many goals I’d like to accomplish for this year. Academically, I’d like to attempt to expand my vocabulary. There’s a countless amount of words out there that I’m sure I’ve never even heard of in my life. I feel like it’s important to be able to understand and use them, so such extravagant words don’t go to waste. Later on in life I’m sure having a larger vocabulary would most likely be helpful in whichever career choice I choose to take. Spiritually, I’d like to get to explore more about all religions than just Christianity. Being raised in a Christian home and family, the only religion I’ve been taught my entire life has been Christianity, and I’ve just gone alone with it believing it’s right not even questioning my own thoughts on what I think is true. With so many different religions in the world there are so many choices in what to believe in and you shouldn’t be held to believing in one just because you were raised in a family that’s been telling you to believe in it. Therefore, I think it’s very important at some point in your life to ask yourself what you want to believe in and not be dependent on the thoughts of other people telling you what is right. Socially, I want to be involved more with people who have the same interests as me. When I say people, I don’t only mean in school. I mean on the internet aswell. One of my favorite parts of the day when I get home is when I take out my laptop, log onto my twitter, and tweet about foster the people with my internet friends for the rest of the night.  Even though some of them live halfway across the world they are some of the best friends I’ve ever had.
