Attitudes Don't Change Easily

From reading The Adventures of Jane Pittman, I learned a lot about the continuous discrimination far after the Civil War. Even though slavery was abolished, all throughout Reconstruction colored people were still not treated equally. From that I learned that although legally things can change, people's attitudes do not change easily.
